Across the void it hung in silence — a colossal ruined cathedral adrift in the sky, its snapped gothic arches, leaning spires and stranded flying buttresses still reaching upward after countless years of moss and lichen. Broken stone bridges arched halfway across the emptiness, their crumbling steps and ruined cloisters drawing the eye toward the distant heights. Morning god rays poured through the breaking clouds, and motes of golden light drifted slowly upward. Sarion let a strand of silver hair stir in the wind and raised one hand toward the sky. The world was so wide, so full of unknown things — and already, in her mind, she had begun to cross the bridge she could not yet reach. Here, time flows gently.
