We explore the Hidden World of Malinta Tunnel: A Tour of Corregidor Island's WWII History
Join the Corregidor Alpha Team, Randy Anderson - Writer and video editor, Karl Wilhelm Wilteke - Expert guide and mentor, and Rhonie Dela Cruz - Videographer, as we explore MacArthur's Underground HQ, the Malinta Tunnel on Corregidor Island. The Malinta Tunnel is a tunnel complex built by the US Army Corps of Engineers on the Philippine island of Corregidor. It was built as a bomb-proof storage and personnel bunker but during the Japanese invasion, a 1,000-bed hospital was set up. The main tunnel is 831 feet long, 24 feet wide, and 18 feet high, and runs east to west. With 13 lateral tunnels on the north side and 11 lateral tunnels on the south side branching off from this main shaft. Each lateral was 160 feet long on average. During the Battle of Corregidor, Malinta Tunnel served as the headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur and the USAFFE. Malinta Tunnel also served as the seat of government of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. The Japanese troops forced the surrender of American and Filipino forces on 6 May 1942 while under the command of Lt. Gen. Jonathan Wainwright. This is a unique opportunity to gain an in-depth look at one of the most important and hidden locations of WWII.
