Steam Loco 131 & 071 class loco (074) on the 'Sea Breeze' Tour - 20th & 22nd August 2023
On Sunday the 20th of August 2023, the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland (RPSI) ran their 'Sea Breeze' which was supposed to run from Dublin Connolly - Rosslare Europort & return. Sadly this never went to plan and instead only ran from Dublin Connolly - Enniscorthy & return. This railtour was supposed to be steam locomotive 131's first time since the 1960's to Rosslare Europort, but sadly, it only made it as far as Greystones, Co. Wicklow before being declared a failure. 071 class loco number 074 then had to work the tour but only as far as Enniscorthy due to how extremely late the tour had become due to the failure in Greystones. Steam locomotive 131 has previously visited almost all of the Rosslare line, that being on Thursday the 11th of May 2023 while on a private excursion for 'Steam Dreams'. But it only went as far as Rosslare Strand and it didn't cover the whole line. The 'Sea Breeze' tour was meant to cover the whole Rosslare line all the way to Rosslare Europort, sadly that wasn't meant to be! 0:00 - 0:42, IÉ 074 hauls the Inchicore Works - Dublin Connolly Craven transfer past Faussagh Avenue. 0:42 - 1:09, This was my only shot of 131 on the railtour, here we see 131 passing Seapoint Bridge. 1:09 - 1:33, Now running 2hrs & 30mins late, IÉ 074 takes over the rest of the railtour after 131 failed in Greystones, here we see 074 passing the former Newcastle Station in Co. Wicklow. 1:33 - 2:00, Here we see 074 passing through Arklow, Co. Wicklow with the 'Sea Breeze' tour. 2:00 - 2:52, Next we see 074 arriving into Enniscorthy, Co Wexford with the tour, here it would only stay for 20 mins before turning round and heading back to Dublin Connolly. 2:52 - 3:29, Now back on time for the return trip, 074 passes the Slaney Bridge, Co. Wexford with the 'Sea Breeze' tour. 3:29 - 4:09, Here we see 074 and it's train passing Bollarney Murragh in Wicklow Town. 4:09 - 4:40, Now on the home run, here we see 074 and it's train passing along Old Dunleary Rd. 4:40 - 5:45, Then on Tuesday the 22nd August 2023. 071 class loco number 074 hauls failed steam loco number 131 from Greystones - Connolly sheds. All in all it was a good day out, but certainly not for the RPSI, it was a pity 131 didn't get to travel the full length of the Rosslare line, but I'm hopeful another opportunity will present it's self in the not so distant future. Please feel free to comment, like & subscribe.
