Soeushinai, once a thriving forestry town, was home to a staggering 1,800 people at its peak, despite being a small mountain village. However, its current population has dwindled to less than 20, a 99% decrease. The railway line has been discontinued. The school has closed. The inn and pachinko parlor that once stood in front of the station have also vanished. During my two-hour stay, I didn't see a single person. However, I could feel the love and care that the people have for this village everywhere I looked, and by the time I finished my walk, I felt incredibly warm inside.
