Few sights in the Peak District are as dramatic — or as misunderstood — as Ladybower Reservoir’s plugholes when they suddenly come into action. After periods of heavy rainfall, the water level at Ladybower can rise rapidly, triggering the reservoir’s bellmouth spillways, commonly known as the plugholes.
