In September 1993, Györgyi Binder killed her 11-year-old daughter, who was suffering from an incurable disease and was in terrible pain - at the child's repeated request. She put a working hairdryer in the girl's bathwater and then pushed the child's head under the water, which killed her. The mother was sentenced to two years in prison, but her sentence was suspended for three years. However, upholding the prosecutor's appeal, the Supreme Court ruled in 1995 that the mother should serve the prison sentence for manslaughter. President Árpád Göncz, however, had other ideas: after careful consideration of the details of the case, he pardoned the mother.
