These foods include red meat and refined grains. But there are many other risk factors. I'll list them in the video. Colon cancer is the most common cancer after breast cancer in women and lung and prostate cancer in men. More than 57,000 people in Germany are newly diagnosed with malignant tumors of the colon, especially the colon, each year. Around 30,000 people die from their cancer. 90% are over 50 at diagnosis, and the average age is around mid-60s. Therefore, colon cancer is primarily a disease of middle age. Symptoms of colon cancer: Colon cancer, like many other forms of cancer, is unfortunately characterized by the fact that early symptoms are usually not observed. Instead, it is often detected very late, unless, again, you undergo colon cancer screening. However, by the time symptoms first appear, the cancer has often already progressed and grown over months and years. Possible signs of a usually advanced colon cancer are: 1) chronic constipation, 2) blood in the stool...so, the key here: Pay attention to whether you notice a change in your bowel habits, and of course, blood in the stool is always a warning sign. Other symptoms can include 3) general decreased performance, 4) weight loss, 5) malaise, and 6) fever. However, these symptoms are very non-specific and can occur for harmless reasons. Nevertheless, you should pay attention to them. ⏩ Very important: Colon cancer screening!!! Dietary and lifestyle habits have a significant impact on the body, especially the colon. Risk factors for colon cancer include: 1) obesity, 2) the classics like smoking and alcohol, 3) a diet rich in fat and meat, and 4) low fiber consumption, meaning few fruits, vegetables, and hardly any whole grain products. So, it must be said: These are the typical risk factors for an unhealthy lifestyle. Colon cancer treatment: Colon cancer should definitely be treated. With timely treatment, a cure is quite possible. Even in advanced disease and existing metastases, surgery and chemotherapy can maintain quality of life and significantly prolong life. In principle, surgical removal of the tumor tissue along the supplying intestinal arteries is the goal. To assess whether metastasis has occurred, the surrounding lymph nodes are also removed and then examined for tumor tissue. This is usually followed by chemotherapy, which can be supplemented by customized antibody therapy. The goal is to maximize recurrence safety with the smallest possible surgical area.
