What exactly happens when something functions as art? Not when we define it from the outside—we saw that in the previous video—but when we go inside and analyze its structure. This video proposes four categories (mimesis, poiesis, apate, and catharsis) to answer that question and account for the dialectic that Lukács calls "the whole man and man entirely." The thesis is that art doesn't take us out of life; it opens a parenthesis that allows us to immerse ourselves more deeply in a dimension of it. And when that parenthesis ends, we return transformed.
