This part of the Aural Tests is the same as in grade 7 except you will need to sing the lower of two parts instead of the upper. This should be no more difficult if you focus on your part and don’t let the upper part distract you. As in Grade 7 you will get a few seconds to try your part WITHOUT the upper part added. After the examiner has given you your key chord, starting note and pulse, first of all look out for any awkward intervals. Then be aware if the rhythm of the upper part is different from your part so that this doesn’t put you off. In this video I will show you four tests, and for each you will get a key chord, starting note and pulse. At this point pause the video a few seconds to try it for yourself without the upper part. Then after you unpause the video you will get the key chord starting note and pulse again, this time sing along with the upper part after one bar of beats.
