100 to 1 - The Class 60 Locomotive Story
100 to 1 tells the story of the Brush Class 60 and features all 100 locomotives. After a troubled start, with numerous problems, a more settled period ensued as the class passed through the Trainload era and into privatisation. Despite their undoubted suitability for Britain's heaviest freight trains, their new owners deemed them surplus to requirements, bringing about a rapid decline in the early years of the new century. A brief resurgence, and a plan to refurbish all 100, came to a sudden end with the economic recession. Their future is now uncertain, and they may indeed have declined from 100 to only one by the time you watch this programme. Highlights include: Rare shots of 60001 and 60002 on test Early workings of locos soon after release to traffic, including 60037 on steel, 60056 on oil and 60081 60011 in Mainline blue at Trent Junction 60008 in Loadhaul colours at Grantham 60042 working stone on the Southern 60089 on iron ore at Newport Transrail 60s at Peak Forest 60033 in British Steel blue EWS 60050 on the Silver Bullet at Stafford GWR-liveried 60081 on steel 60073 on MGRs at Warrington 60003 rescuing a failed 66 60002 on a diverted lime train at Seaham 60s on the S&C with gypsum trains Corus-liveried 60006 working MGRs 60076 at Hatton with oil tankers 60046 on an engineer's train at Doncaster Schenker repaints 60040 and 60074 60075 on a Binliner at Princes Risborough 60034 on Dee Marsh steel 60022 working Lindsey tanks 60060 with an engineer's train at Barrow Hill 60031 working oil through Cheltenham 60004 on the Lickey 60054 still in completely original livery in 2009!
