Pace's New 2025 Hybrid-Electric Buses in Joliet

Recently, Pace has unveiled the new 2025 hybrid-electric Gillig buses in Joliet (note that they're numbered 25XXX's). These buses are currently assigned to Heritage Division (Plainfield). Pace's Pulse (Bus Rapid Transit) system is also expected to recieve hybrid buses in the near future. I took a ride on one of the buses (25531) on Route 511 between Joliet and Elwood and was lucky enough to encounter a fast operator going 40+ mph. These buses offer a very smooth ride as well as modern amenities such as onbosrd LED displays and USB charging ports. The North Division (Waukegan) has recieved battery-electric buses — similar to the one running along Route 381 (95th Street) — and is undergoing upgrades in order to support electric bus-charging infrastructure. This project is expected to wrap up in 2027.
