The castle is located in the center of the village of Yakovka, Kolpnyansky district of the Oryol region. The name Yakovka is most likely associated with the first owner of the estate - court councilor Yakov Andreevich Okhotnikov. The lands were granted to him for military merits by Empress Catherine II. One of his descendants, Vasily Pavlovich Okhotnikov, studied at a cadet school together with the outstanding Russian poet Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. He served in the ranks of the Russian Army, rose to the rank of general, and after retirement decided to engage in sugar production. The general built a sugar factory on his estate. But not just built it, but with sophistication, because Mr. Okhotnikov traveled a lot around Europe, where he was imbued with the grandeur of Gothic architecture. The factory turned out to be surprisingly unusual. A sort of small Gothic fortress with beautiful stained glass windows and pointed columns, spires and a basilica. The facades were exquisitely decorated. On the walls, metal patterns organically framed the windows. He never lived in his castle, but only visited, He lived in his house on Nevsky in St. Petersburg. After Vasily Pavlovich, the estate was inherited by his nephew Vladimir Nikolaevich Okhotnikov. After the revolution of 1917, the sugar factory was nationalized. In the 1920s, a Soviet commune was located there, then the yard was given over to a machine tool warehouse, and the building itself was a village cultural club and a canteen. Today, none of this is there - everything inside is empty. The colored stained glass windows have long been knocked out, everything that the dexterous hands of the locals could carry has been removed from the walls. The meager furniture has been stolen and the red brick is gradually disappearing. As a result, the walls are collapsing. Local farmers don't care about the village symbol, although it's not difficult to fake it and preserve it for posterity. The majestic Gothic skeleton is still good, although it's deteriorating more and more every year. The roof may collapse next year.
