Single White Litigant

The plaintiff says she lived in the defendant’s apartment but didn’t feel safe in the building or neighborhood. She claims when she raised her concerns, the defendant called her stupid and tried to intimidate her. She decided to move out and is suing for the return of her security deposit. The defendant says he has no idea why she felt unsafe because “plenty of other young white ladies” in the area seem fine. He claims she moved only a few blocks away in the same neighborhood, so he doesn’t buy her story. He refuses to return the deposit because she broke the lease and is countersuing for unpaid rent.
