In this video, I break down the front headlock escape system that has made me far more confident committing to takedowns in jiu-jitsu. We compare three common escapes: the two-on-one, elbow pass, and short drag. We look at why the short drag offers the strongest opportunity to immediately continue attacking. The problem is that heavy pressure and a well-timed underhook can shut these escapes down. That is where the dump becomes so valuable. The dump does not replace the short drag but clears the underhook, relieves pressure, and creates the conditions that make the short drag work. Finally, we connect the system back to standing wrestling by using head position and elbow control before shooting. That way, even when the takedown fails, we can transition directly into our front headlock escapes and keep the offensive cycle going. Fearless wrestling does not mean believing every shot will work. It means knowing your offense can continue when it does not.
