Mountain Village Life: Cooking Deruny & Picking Berries 🏔️🫐

Today our morning starts with something delicious – homemade potato pancakes (deruny)! While I peel the potatoes, Mom carefully grates them by hand. Besides the pancakes, we are also making a hearty pilaf, and I’m preparing fresh potatoes and beets for our piglet, Hryusha. It’s a bit chilly today, so we keep our little chicks safe inside to make sure they stay warm. We also let Hryusha out and treat her with fresh beet leaves. After all the chores, it's time to cook the deruny! Mom adds eggs, flour, and spices to the mixture, and we enjoy them with fresh sour cream. 😋 After a good meal, I head to the mountains to pick wild blueberries (Yafyna). I use a special hand-made tool for gathering them. It’s quite a hike, but the beauty of our mountains, the smell of the spruces, and the fresh air are absolutely worth it! Even our loyal dog, Druzhok, joins me for the journey. While I’m in the mountains, Mom takes our cow, Lasunya, to the pasture and returns home to tend to our beautiful blooming roses and flowers in the garden. The scent is just incredible!
