Rescued from the Trash... Are These Boomerang Kits Any Good? | Tasman 1/72 CA-12/13/19 Inbox Review
Welcome to another inbox review! This time I'm taking a look at two classic Tasman Models 1/72 scale CAC Boomerang kits—covering the CA-12 and CA-13/19 variants. These limited-run kits have quite a story behind them. Both were rescued from a pile of unwanted model kits destined for the bin, so before they eventually reach my workbench, I wanted to find out whether they deserve a second chance... Can these older, limited-run kits still compete with the newer Special Hobby Boomerang, or has time finally caught up with them? This video covers: 🔹 Taking a look at both boxings 🔹 Examining the original instruction sheets (via Scalemates) 🔹 Taking a close look at the limited-run plastic mouldings, 🔹 Vacuformed canopies 🔹 White metal detail parts 🔹 Mould quality and my first impressions 🔹 How this kit compare with the Special Hobby Boomerang 🔹 My plans for building both kits... These Boomerangs include white metal parts and vacuformed canopies to add extra detail, although they also bring the usual challenges associated with short-run tooling. When I eventually build these kits, I plan to replace many of the original detail parts with my own 3D-printed upgrades, including a new cockpit and other improvements currently under development. This review is also part of a larger series looking at every readily available 1/72 scale CAC Boomerang kit. After this, I'll be reviewing the classic Airfix Boomerang before putting all of these kits to the test on the workbench.
