How To Prepare For A Wax

Getting your first wax can be nerve racking, but it’s even worse if you have no idea how to prepare for a wax. Well, I’m here to help! Hair Length: 1. Make sure you grow your hair out at least 3 weeks prior to your waxing appointment. If the hair is too short, the wax won’t be able to adhere to the hair which will result in the hair breaking. If the hair is too long (longer than 6 weeks), your wax can be more painful since the wax might “pull” on the hair. 2. The ideal hair length is about 1/4th an inch of growth which takes between 3-6 weeks to grow out. Prep Your Skin: 1. Ensure you exfoliate 1-2 days before getting waxed. This helps remove any dead skin cells which will prevent the wax from adhering to your hair. 2. Take a shower before your waxing appointment. It’s important to ensure there’s no dirt, sweat, make up, lotion or oil on your skin as this will interfere with the wax. Freshly clean skin is always the way to go. 3. Don’t put on any lotion or oil directly before your waxing appointment. Lotion and oil will make it extremely difficult for the wax to adhere to your skin. So the day of your wax appointment, it’s best to skip that step in your beauty routine. 4. Moisturize IN ADVANCE. Although it’s not good to moisturize the day of your waxing appointment, I do recommend moisturizing daily leading up to your appointment. Moisturized skin will help the hair be more easily released from the follicle during waxing. Day Of Your Appointment: 1. Avoid caffeine and alcohol the day of as they will increase skin sensitivity. I know it seems like a good idea at the time, but trust me. It’s not worth it! Save it as a reward for after. 2. Wear loose fitting clothes. The last thing you want to do is wear tight fitting clothes to your appointment and have to put them back on after getting waxed. Tight clothes will cause friction and irritation which is something you definitely don’t want to have to deal with. Loose fitting, cotton clothes is the best, smartest thing to wear.
