We started our day super early in Mirissa at 4:30 AM, waking up to the most stunning sunrise and ocean views from our resort balcony. ☀️🌊 The soft morning colors, calm waves, and cool breeze made it the perfect start for our whale watching adventure. 🐋 Whale Watching in Mirissa Our early morning whale watching trip was absolutely breathtaking! We spotted playful dolphins first, and then, after a couple of hours, lucky enough to see majestic whales in their natural habitat. The ferry was super comfortable, with snacks, fruits, and juice provided. This experience is truly unforgettable — nothing beats seeing wildlife up close in the ocean. Travel tips: Morning trips are best, bring a light jacket, sunscreen, and motion sickness tablets if needed. 🚗 Scenic Drive to Galle Fort After whale watching, we drove along the coastal road to Galle, with the sea on one side and rain adding a romantic vibe to the journey. The drive itself is scenic heaven! 🏰 Galle Fort Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic tourist destinations. Built during the Portuguese and Dutch colonial era, it’s filled with cobbled streets, charming boutiques, art galleries, and cafés, along with stunning ocean views. Perfect for walking, photography, and exploring history. Travel tips: Wear comfortable shoes, visit in the late afternoon for cooler temperatures and golden-hour photos. 💎 Moonstone Mining Experience Next, we visited a natural moonstone mining site near Galle. It was amazing to see how these precious stones are mined, cleaned, polished, and finally crafted into jewelry. A fascinating insight into Sri Lanka’s gemstone industry. 🌿 Madu River Safari – Bentota On the way to Bentota, we enjoyed the sunset Madu River safari, cruising through lush mangroves. We visited a small island to see cinnamon stick production, and even tried the fish foot massage, which was a unique experience! Travel tips: Sunset is the most magical time; carry insect repellent and comfortable clothes. 🐢 Turtle Hatchery We also stopped at a turtle hatchery to learn about conservation efforts and baby turtles being released into the sea. Very educational and heartwarming for travelers of all ages. 🏨 The Palms, Bentota – Resort Stay Finally, we reached The Palms, Bentota, a cozy oceanfront resort. The balcony ocean view, swimming pool, private beach, and peaceful surroundings made it the perfect way to end a long day. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and a lively cultural show to immerse ourselves in Sri Lankan traditions. Travel tips: December is one of the best months for visiting Sri Lanka — pleasant weather, calm seas, and scenic drives.
