Riflessioni di un pianista - Gestire gli errori per aumentare l'autostima

Talking about mistakes in music studies touches on a very delicate point. Unlike other disciplines, where mistakes can be perceived as something external and objective, in music they directly affect our identity. When we play, we're not simply performing a task: we're expressing a profound part of ourselves. For this reason, a correction can be experienced as a personal criticism, generating frustration or sadness. Yet, it's crucial to change perspective. A teacher who simply offers compliments doesn't truly help us grow. True teaching also involves identifying what isn't working, provided it happens with sensitivity and within a relationship of trust. It's not about judging the person, but about highlighting the gap between what we'd like to express and what actually reaches the listener. In this sense, mistakes become a precious tool: a sign that shows us where we can improve, an opportunity to sharpen our musical awareness. Accepting critical remarks without feeling offended is a fundamental step in every musician's journey. At the same time, the role of the teacher is equally crucial. Correction isn't enough: it's necessary to be able to see the student's potential, even when it isn't yet evident. When a teacher can inspire trust and envision their student's future path, they create the conditions for true growth. Criticism, then, is no longer an obstacle, but part of a shared project. Finally, it's important to learn to recognize our own progress. We often compare ourselves to unattainable models and forget to consider how much we've changed over time. It's precisely in this comparison with our past that we can find motivation and awareness. This video is an invitation to reconsider the meaning of mistakes: not as something to be feared, but as a necessary and valuable step in the journey of musical growth. by Roberto Prosseda #robertoprosseda #reflectionsofapianist #studyingpiano ============================================ Subscribe to my channel here:    / robertoprossedapianist   Visit my website: http://www.robertoprosseda.com/ Follow me on Facebook:   / prossedaroberto   Follow me on Twitter:   / robertoprosseda   You can also find me on Instagram:   / robertoprosseda
