In the world of international piano competitions, a sensitive issue has always existed: is it right for candidates who have studied with jury members to participate? In this video, we address the issue without prejudice, analyzing a widespread reality in major competitions and often unavoidable, given the global circulation of young pianists between masterclasses and renowned teachers. Starting from traditional rules, which only partially limit conflicts of interest, the video offers a deeper reflection on fairness and transparency. An innovative decision introduced at the Rina Sala Gallo Competition in Monza is also presented: completely excluding from participation anyone who has had even a single lesson with a jury member. A radical decision, but one that has led to surprising results, increasing trust and the number of entrants.
