We wanted to do it more bushcraft-style camping, building shelters, and sleeping on spruce bows in front of a central fire. But just like any good plan, it fell apart when we showed up at our destination and found the lake had 3 inches of slush on it. According to the weather report, it was not likely that the conditions would change, so we made the best of it and set up a shelter with tarps and cots and hammocks. This kept us out of the slush when sleeping, but the rest of the time, it was a task to move around, like always walking on a soft sandy beach. We brought some food, but mostly just ingredients to add to our meals, so we needed to catch fish to round out the dinners. Once again, plans and reality didn't line up exactly as we had hoped, but we still managed to have some fun!
