The easiest way to get to Fukuoka City from Miyazaki Prefecture is Fukuoka City, the capital of Kyushu, with a metropolitan population of 2.7 million. The cheapest public transportation option to Fukuoka City is the "Phoenix" express bus, which can travel from Miyazaki City for 3,500 to 7,000 yen depending on the season. However, the journey time is quite long, between four and a half and just under five hours. Its main users are young people looking to save money and seniors with plenty of time. Meanwhile, the quickest option is by plane, which takes just over 30 minutes from Miyazaki Airport to Fukuoka Airport. Even traveling between downtown Miyazaki and Fukuoka is easily possible in just two hours. On the flip side, it's more expensive than the bus, so it's mostly used by cash-rich middle-aged and middle-aged people and business people. "B&S Miyazaki," which we'll introduce today, is somewhere between an express bus and a plane. The route involves traveling by express bus to Shin-Yatsushiro Station in southern Kumamoto Prefecture, then transferring to the Shinkansen to head to Hakata Station. By bypassing the traffic-prone Fukuoka suburbs, the Shinkansen ensures high speed and punctuality. The journey from Miyazaki Station takes between three hours and 20 and 40 minutes, arriving at Hakata Station about an hour faster than the Phoenix. The regular fare for both bus and Shinkansen exceeds 10,000 yen, but if you book online, you can travel for as little as 8,200 yen, or 6,000 yen with an early bird discount. It offers a middle-of-the-road option that's faster than a highway bus and cheaper than a plane. B&S Miyazaki began operating non-stop routes in July 2025. Regular buses stop at Miyako City, Miyakonojo Kita, Kobayashi IC, Ebino IC (some routes pass by), and Hitoyoshi IC after leaving Miyazaki Station, but this non-stop route passes all of them and goes directly to Shin-Yatsushiro Station! Arrival at Shin-Yatsushiro Station is now 13 minutes faster than before, making it a much faster route. By departing Miyazaki Station at 7:03 AM and transferring to Shinkansen Sakura 546 at Shin-Yatsushiro Station, you'll arrive at Hakata Station at 10:21 AM. The journey from Miyazaki Station is 3 hours and 18 minutes. The B&S Miyazaki is more expensive than express buses and slower than airplanes, so it could be considered a half-hearted option. Perhaps this non-stop service was established to attract even a few more people using expressways and airplanes. The non-stop "B&S Miyazaki 546" doesn't run every day; it only runs on Saturdays and other days when demand is high, heading northbound to Shin-Yatsushiro. When I rode this non-stop service in early March 2026, there were 11 passengers, including myself. Since the capacity is 40 people, it didn't seem like many seats were filled. Perhaps to reduce empty seats, the timetable will be revised on March 14, 2026, to include a stop at the Miyakonojo Kita bus stop, and the service name will be changed to "Super Kaisoku." As a result, the journey time will be extended by two minutes. The "Chokaisoku" (super rapid service) category formerly operated on the Hokuetsu Kyuko Hokuhoku Line in Niigata Prefecture, but was discontinued in 2023.
