I admired the Tobu Railway's C11 locomotive at Shimo-Imaichi, then traveled to Kitakata via the Aizu Railway. My destination, of course, was Kitakata ramen. However, that wasn't the only highlight of this trip. From Kitakata, I boarded the SL Ban'etsu Monogatari, pulled by the C57 180 locomotive. I captured plenty of beautiful scenery along the Ban'etsu West Line, including the Agano River and the landscape bathed in the twilight. However, midway through the journey, a signal malfunction occurred. The train was delayed, and I ended up on an unplanned "night train" schedule. The C57 180 running through the darkness, the whistle echoing at the station, the quiet atmosphere inside the train—this unexpected event actually made the trip even more unforgettable. From Shimo-Imaichi to Kitakata, and then to Niitsu on the Ban'etsu Monogatari. Further on, a long railway journey of over 30 minutes, heading towards Sakata. Steam locomotives, local lines in Aizu, Kitakata ramen, the breathtaking scenery of the Ban'etsu West Line, and an unexpected night train.
