Former presidential candidate Mesías Guevara commented on the start of the transition process to the incoming government of Keiko Fujimori, who is preparing with her team before officially assuming power. Guevara stated that the president-elect must clearly explain her vision for the future of Peru. In an interview with Milagros Leiva, the former regional governor indicated that he does not plan to greet Fujimori because he does not maintain a direct relationship with her or her team. "There are no direct relations with her and her team because we didn't part on good terms during the first campaign," he affirmed. However, he maintained that the new political landscape demands a clear definition of who will be in government and who will assume the role of the opposition. Guevara emphasized that the opposition must play a democratic, proactive, and oversight role, without resorting to obstructionism. Along these lines, he indicated that his position will be focused on developing proposals, respecting the rule of law, and maintaining the balance of power. “I am a proactive person, I am a person who proposes solutions, and I always like to be on the side that builds,” he stated. OPPOSITION, TRANSFER, AND VISION FOR THE FUTURE When asked about the Fuerza Popular transition team, Guevara considered it important that the process move forward quickly and clearly to understand the true state of the public sector. He also maintained that several members of the technical team are already familiar with the workings of the State, having held positions in various entities. “There are practically many officials who have been part of the current administration,” he said. It should be noted that the Fuerza Popular transition process is being led by economist Marco Vinelli, considered a trusted figure of Keiko Fujimori and responsible for organizing the information that the next government will receive. From the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Vinelli is leading the review of the state of each sector to determine where the next administration will need to focus its efforts. Furthermore, the transition team includes individuals linked to various government ministries, such as Juliana Losa, Sergio González Guerrero, Augusto Egiguren Praeli, José Recoba, Juan Carlos González Hidalgo, Vicente Álvarez Moreno, Remigio Hernani, Juan Padilla, Juan Carlos Odar, and Luis Alemán. According to Guevara, the presence of several officials with prior experience in public administration confirms that Fujimorism is already familiar with parts of the state apparatus and that the process must be carried out transparently. On the other hand, he questioned what he considers Fujimorism's limited vision of the country's development, recalling his experience as a congressman during the broadband law debate. "It is crucial that Ms. Fujimori and her team share their vision for the country's development," he stated. Guevara believes Peru needs strategic integration at both the national and international levels, especially given the current context of political, social, economic, and geographic fragmentation. PROTESTS CALLED BY ROBERTO SÁNCHEZ Regarding the protests promoted by Roberto Sánchez, Guevara stated that he is not currently in talks with him or with Juntos por el Perú (Together for Peru). Instead, he indicated that he is promoting a group called Concertación Perú (Peru Concertation), focused on issues such as democracy, public transformation of the State, science, technology, innovation, and the knowledge economy. “We are actually building a group that we have called ‘Concertación Perú’,” he clarified. Finally, Guevara insisted that Fujimori must explain where she wants to lead the country and give clear signals about her proposed government. “What we must ask of Ms. Fujimori is that she share her vision for the future of Peru with all Peruvians,” he maintained.
