In today's video, check out tips for creating a practical, functional, and comfortable room for your baby. MAIN FURNITURE ITEMS 1) Crib It should be positioned in a location that is easily accessible to anyone entering the room and, preferably, away from windows, curtains, electrical outlets, and any other objects or interference that could pose the slightest risk to the baby's health, comfort, well-being, and safety. When choosing furniture, check that it has the Inmetro certification seal. Pay attention to the distance between the side rails, which should not exceed 6 cm. Also, when choosing a crib, be very careful when choosing a crib mattress. Ideally, it should be neither too hard nor too soft (the recommended density is D18) and hypoallergenic. Also, avoid using blankets, throws, pillows, or other decorations on the mattress. Only a sheet should be placed over it. 2) Dresser The dresser's main function is typically to support the changing table. For this purpose, it should be about 90cm high. Width and depth can vary greatly, but ideally, it should be at least 0.45 x 0.90m, which is enough space for a baby while in diapers. It's very important to consider that you'll need space for the baby's hygiene kit—which needs to be on hand—and for a supply of diapers, ointment, and cotton nearby in case of an emergency. The ideal location for the dresser in the layout is also preferably away from windows and doors that could create drafts. 3) Closet/wardrobe If you're a new mom, know that baby items are small, but the quantity is surprising and requires storage space. Just think about the volume of a single pack of diapers – and that, normally, we need a basic stock. 4) Nursing chair These are usually large pieces of furniture. Therefore, if the space allows, have one. In the layout, they can and should be placed near windows. It's quite pleasant to breastfeed in natural light. This contact is also healthy for both mother and baby. As for the ottoman, which may or may not accompany it, I'm of the same opinion. It's necessary. If it fits in the room, use it too. IMPORTANT CARE: 5) Be mindful of the size of the furniture Always keep in mind that the more free space there is in the room – what, technically, we call circulation – the more pleasant and functional it will be. 6) Less is more The smoother and cleaner, the better. This makes the furniture safer for the baby and easier to clean. Rounded edges are also very welcome to prevent accidents. COOL TIPS: 7) Multifunctional Options A good option is smart, multifunctional furniture, which combines two, three, or more functions in one. 8) Niches and Shelves Besides serving as an organization tool, they decorate and brighten up the room and allow the decor to follow the chosen theme for that room, since you choose what will be placed inside them. 9) Storage Boxes Storage boxes can be hung above the dresser, on the wall, to store and organize the baby's hygiene items (diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, etc.), or fixed to the crib, near the nursing chair. 10) If possible, hire a professional. I guarantee, with knowledge of the subject, that it makes all the difference. If you don't have a professional, always have the room plan handy and play around with the furniture until you find the best layout, with pieces of appropriate dimensions.
