Bengül Izgören - Interview after the DBS treatment surgery for Parkinson's I am a dentist, my name is Bengül İzgören, and I am from Izmir. My brother found Mr. Zırh, I had the surgery, and he gave me a second chance in life, I think he is the right person. It is obviously not an easy to manage disease, you can see it if you look into it a bit. It reduces the quality of your daily life, it affects the way you walk, eat, everything. Now, after the surgery, they don't even believe that I had it. I went back to my profession, and I wasn't away from it for that long, I think mine is an early diagnosis. I have two daughters, we are like close friends. I have a happy life. I was born in 1961, I am 48 years old. I wasn't much informed when I first heard that I got it, I didn't even accept it. It took some time, could be between 2004-2005. Now one thing is clear for me, my life is ahead of me. I erased the past, I am now interested in how much I will live, what I will do in life. I love life and the people. That's how I will be moving forward from now on. When I found out that I would get the device, let me say that it became the hope of my life. My sister first heard of him. I came to see Mr. Zırh, and somehow I decided to do it without any fear. I think it's because that I trusted him, the doctor. Now I'm thinking, you go into that operation room at 8 AM and go out at 4 PM, time just flied. What I experienced afterwards, after the surgery, the changes that I saw made me really, really happy, the quality of my life improved. I think they are showing the before and after the surgery conditions, but I am great now. I don't even remember what I went through before the surgery. I am fine now. I am working, I have a good life at home, my social life going really well. I am happy with my patient, I am happy with my family. The thing to recommend is obvious, I referred a patient to Mr. Zırh, and I feel like I performed his surgery. I feel so happy for being the person to recommend him, I recommend everyone now. I mean, it is an expensive operation for everyone, but that is the one and only disadvantage, and social security covers it. Every patient should have the surgery. It feels like a slogan, but I am really happy that I had it. The SSI covers these medicines since I'm working with the Ministry of Health. They thought that I was a patient's relative when I got to the hospital to get my committee report. It was a neurologist, I have to say. It was of course a wonderful thing for me.
