Benjamin Mizrahi - Interview after the DBS treatment surgery for Parkinson's My name is Benjamin Mizhari. I was born in Istanbul, in 1935. I am 75 years old. I have Parkinson's for 30 years. Sibel Özekmekçi suggested Ali Zirh, I was her patient and being treated with medication. Then the medication was not sufficient and it had side effects. I used to fall, I could not help myself. Once I was coming back from work and fell down in Taksim Square, I mean, I freezed just before I fell. I wanted to take a step and fell down and cars started to pass by, two people hardly raised me and after that incident I should take Sibel Özekmekçi's advice and have the operation no matter what and had the operation. I had the surgery 4 years ago. I came back to life to be honest. I can leave the house alone, I don't need a helper. I can do my daily errands at home by myself after the surgery. I couldn't get dressed, move things away. After the surgery, I can get up from the bed easily, go to toilet alone, wash my face alone. I don't need anyone. I can run my errands without needing anyone. I can go to the bank alone. For instance, I reside at Nisantasi and I came here all this way on foot with my wife. I was so sick of my life before the surgery, I told myself whatever happens, happens. I never forget when Sibel Sibel Özekmekçi said Mr Zirh can take care of it. So I recommend other Parkinson's patients the surgery if Mr Zirh says so. Fortune Mizrahi: My name is Fortune Mizrahi. I am the wife of Benjamin Mizrahi. He is 75 years old and has Parkinson's for 30 years. At first we tried to cure this with medication. It worked at the beginning but then side effects of meds kicked in and once the effect of medication fades away, disease would be worse. Finally, Sibel Özekmekçi recommended Mr. Zirh to us. He said the only way was to have the surgery and my husband was courageous, had the surgery. Now he's so happy that he was courageous. Quality of his life changed one hundred percent. Like he said, he could not go outside by himself, he would fall down. When the medication went off, he'd freeze. He also had a tremor; he used to shake all over. He'd tire himself and made uncomfortable also making us uncomfortable. We used to take care of him with no choice. Once he saw Mr Zirh, he made up his mind and had the operation and he is well, thank God, now our quality of life got better. He can walk without help, he takes walks for 10-15 minutes even 20 minutes sometimes. He could not turn around in the bed, now he can. He had trouble eating, now he does not. He's like a regular person, most of the people could not even tell he has Parkinson's. My life used to be completely different, I was sad being have to be with him all the time, since he was sad too. Now I'm very happy. I appreciate Mr Zirh a lot. Since he's well for 4 years, I believe he is going to be like this from now on. Hastada ilaç almadığında solda hakim titreme, katılık, tutukluk ve yürüme güçlüğünün mevcut olduğu; yüksek doz ilaçla bu yakınmalarının kısmen azaldığı ancak şiddetli istem dışı hareketlerin ortaya çıktığı gözlendi.
