In the first half of our journey through the abandoned villages of Taga Town, Shiga Prefecture, we travel along rugged mountain roads to three hamlets: Sugi, Hozuki, and Gosō. These were once settlements where charcoal burning was the main occupation. Now, shrouded in silence, the houses are returning to nature.
