Today I'm trying out a format I'm really into right now: reality vs. fiction. We're going to watch clips from movies, TV series, and YouTube videos about video game stores together… and I'm going to explain what's true, and especially what's completely false. After more than 10 years in a specialty store, I can tell you there are tons of clichés about the job of a video game salesperson, about customers, about buybacks, and even about how stores actually operate. Between "codes in a box," preconceived notions about Micromania, customer stereotypes, and the reality on the ground… you might be surprised 😅 The goal isn't to be gratuitous, but to bring some reality back into all of this, with real-life examples.
