Screaming Meemies

The screaming meemies again... a migraine made of glass. The house climbs in through the cracks of it and whispers, low and fast. There's a woman in the wallpaper, been here longer than the stone. She says, "Olivia, sweet Olivia, you don't have to be alone. The world out there will ruin them, break their hearts and steal their light... but you could keep them perfect — you could keep them here tonight." And my head is full of breaking, and my babies are so small... and the red door keeps on saying it's the kindest thing of all— Forever, forever, I can keep you in the best of years. No more growing, no more leaving, no more world to make you fear. Just a cup of something gentle, just a sleep that never ends... Mommy's only trying to save you — forever, my loves... amen. This is love — you have to see it, this is what a mother does. Out there waits the rot and ruin, in here waits eternal hush. (THE TEA — THE TEA — HER LITTLE HANDS!) THE HOUSE SAID SAVE THEM, SAVE THEM— NOW I CANNOT UNDERSTAND! TWO MORE CUPS UPON THE TABLE— TWO MORE BABIES YET TO KEEP— (FOREVER — FOREVER—) Hush now, little twins of mine... come and drink and dream with me. We'll never have to say goodbye, we'll stay here endlessly. The dark out there can't touch you... just close your eyes and stay... Mommy's got a cup of stars to chase the world away. [female screams] NO — GIVE THEM BACK — THEY'RE MINE TO SAVE! HUGH'S ON THE STAIRS — HE'S PULLING THEM AWAY! THE RAILING — THE DARK — I'M FALLING— THE HOUSE WON'T LET ME— (FOREVER—) And I never hit the ground... the house just opened wide. It kept me like it keeps them all — forever, on the other side.
