Eldoret Smart Meters: Tracking water online and making a difference.
Kenyan water companies lose about 46% of the water they pump, resulting in about KSh11 billion a year in non-revenue water. This waste affects about 20 million Kenyans, over 30% of the population, who do not have access to basic water services. Eldowas collaborated with Safaricom and Earth View Management Limited to use smart meters to record and transmit consumption data to address this issue. The results have seen a significant revenue increase for Eldowas, which can make water accessible to more people. The Eldowas smart metering project demonstrates how digital transformation can change the water sector by leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT). The project is hoped that other public water companies in Kenya can learn from Eldowas and manage water allocation, distribution, production, and usage more efficiently using technology. #SafaricomNews
