These weren't all positive, though, as I sometimes felt a pang of nostalgia for German football and German fan culture. My trip took me to Serie B to see Carrarese Calcio. An old bowl of a stadium, cool fans, but not in the masses we see in the 2. Bundesliga. Then it was on to AC Carpi, Serie C. So, the third division in Italy, but somehow completely different. The league structure alone is incomparable – maybe that's why the football is on a different level. 👀 The tifosi, the fans, were definitely there. In the pubs, you could feel that football is incredibly important to Italians. And perhaps to the police as well, because what happened to the away fans was something I hadn't expected.
