Incontinence can take various forms. Stress incontinence occurs when those affected involuntarily lose urine, for example, when laughing or sneezing. In such cases, there is an involuntary loss of urine during physical exertion, even though there is no urge to urinate. Another form of incontinence is urge incontinence. Here, those affected suddenly experience a strong urge to urinate, even though the bladder is only partially full. Often, those affected don't make it to the toilet in time and involuntarily lose urine several times an hour. Reflex incontinence occurs when those affected no longer feel when their bladder is full and can no longer control emptying. This leads to the bladder emptying itself irregularly and usually incompletely. When small amounts of urine constantly leak from a full bladder and those affected feel a constant urge to go to the toilet, it is called overflow incontinence.
