The term thoracic spine syndrome, or T-spine syndrome for short, is an umbrella term encompassing various types of pain in the thoracic spine (T-spine). WHAT CAUSES A THREE-SPINE BLOCKAGE? In a thoracic spine blockage, the vertebrae themselves don't become locked. Rather, the muscles along the thoracic spine are tense and hardened. A T-spine blockage, therefore, involves blocked muscles, not blocked vertebrae. Triggers for a T-spine blockage include repetitive strain, poor posture, and lack of movement. In everyday life, we almost always have a slightly hunched posture, especially when we sit in front of a screen all day. Regular stretching would be a good way to counteract this. Since hardly anyone regularly stretches their thoracic spine, the muscles shorten. The back muscles, as the opposing muscles, are constantly trying to straighten us up again—and are completely overwhelmed by this. The muscles are in a constant state of imbalance. Over time, the muscles of the thoracic spine become tense, cramped, and hardened. HOW CAN I COUNTERACT THOROUGH SPINE BLOCKAGE? If lack of exercise and weak back muscles are the cause of your discomfort, you can ensure you get enough exercise in your daily life. Suitable sports for back pain include endurance sports such as Nordic walking or swimming. Attending a back school can also help improve posture and further strengthen the muscles. In addition, you should pay attention to sitting correctly and healthily in your daily life. Aids such as a wedge cushion or orthotic insoles can also relieve pressure on the spine and correct any postural problems.
