Ginette Doyen Plays 10 Pieces Pittoresques by Chabrier (1956) (Mono)

Ginette Doyen (1921-2002) was a French pianist and teacher. She showed great ability at a young age, and was winning international piano competitions in the 1930s, until WWII interrupted her career. After the war she resumed playing and giving concerts. She also made recordings albeit not many. These were made mainly in the 1950s. An injured thumb in the 1970s led to retirement from the concert stage but she continued as a teacher. Ms. Doyen had a beautiful and delicate technique perfectly suited to pieces such as this work by Chabrier. I am posting this on International Women's Day in part to highlight one of the many talented female pianists who often are less known than their male contemporaries. This recording was produced by Westminster using the NAB equalization curve which was one of several curves in use before RIAA became the standard. I have attempted to re-equalize it as best I can.
