Guiomar Novaes Plays Chopin Nocturnes (Complete.) Vol 1. 1957. (Mono)

Guiomar Novaes (1895-1979) was a Brazilian born pianist. She showed great potential as a child and was accepted into the Paris Conservatory at the age of 14. Among the judges who approved her entry into the Conservatory was Debussy. During the First World War she came to the US, where she made her debut in 1915. She gave frequent concerts around the US, and in the 1920s made her first recordings. She was well regarded by critics and audiences and known for her intense and individualistic style. In the 1950s, she began recording with Vox with whom she made dozens of recordings. She reduced her public performance schedule in the 1960s, but played an annual concert in New York each year. She made her last public performance 1971. Many of her recordings are still available on CD. This is the first of two albums of the complete Chopin Nocturnes. It was recorded in mono. The copy I have is not in great condition - so there are a few noises and artifacts from removing loud pops.
