How do you stop being a people pleaser without becoming selfish? Many Christians struggle with people-pleasing because they fear that putting their own needs first is somehow uncharitable. But what if the opposite of people-pleasing isn't selfishness at all? In this video, I explore both a psychological and spiritual approach to overcoming people-pleasing. First, I discuss Robert Glover's insight that recovering people-pleasers need to begin paying attention to their own needs and desires. Second, I explore the Christian concept of well-ordered self-love through the teachings of St Thomas Aquinas and Christ's command to "love your neighbour as yourself." If you struggle to say no, fear disappointing people, avoid conflict, or constantly seek approval from others, I hope this video helps. "The opposite of people-pleasing is not selfishness. The opposite of people-pleasing is truthful, charitable, and well-ordered love." #peoplepleasing #christianity #catholic #psychology #boundaries
