June 30 | Private security will boost law enforcement capacity: criminologist
Private security companies have been brought in to assist the South African Police Service (SAPS) in preparing for possible mass demonstrations against undocumented immigrants on Tuesday. This is in response to tension following some civil movements calling on undocumented immigrants to leave the country by June 30. Private security will work alongside Metro Police, law enforcement agencies and other entities to secure life and property should any violence break out. Criminologist and Senior Lecturer at UNISA's Department of Police Practice in the School of Criminal Justice, Professor Mpho Matlala joins us to unpack this development.
