Exploring the Two Contrary Halves of Young Adulthood
Most anime shy away from the challenge of depicting young adult characters. It's one of the most complicated times in anyone's life. It’s a merging of childlike joy and whimsy with the presumed cynicism and monotony of full blown adulthood, and the journey of many people’s early 20s is to find a middle ground between those two extremes. And that's exactly what this pair of anime tries to explore. The Night is Short Walk on Girl and The Tatami Galaxy are a pair of anime adapted from books written by Tomohiko Morimi. Individually, they both present messages about the complexity of young adulthood, however that message is tempered when you attempt to consider these two series together. And that's what I attempted to explore in this video. Music: Huge thank you to "what is ?" for allowing me to use their songs as background music!
