This street was once the heart of London’s "Sailortown," lined with bustling warehouses and high-walled wharves. St Katharine Docks: A transition from the industrial grit of Wapping to the refined serenity of London's only central marina. The Dockside Walk: We finish with a stroll through the marina, passing historic ships and modern yachts as we head toward the spectacular views of Tower Bridge. 📜 A Glimpse into History Wapping High Street has been a vibrant maritime hub since the 1300s. Known for its "dark history," it was home to the Execution Dock, where pirates (including the infamous Captain Kidd) were brought to meet their end at the low-tide mark. Today, you can still see the ancient river stairs used by watermen for centuries, tucked between modern warehouse conversions. St Katharine Docks took its name from the 12th-century Hospital of St Katharine’s by the Tower, which originally stood on this site. The docks as we know them were designed by the legendary engineer Thomas Telford and opened in 1828. Built to handle luxury imports like tea, ivory, and spices, the warehouses were uniquely constructed directly on the quayside to allow ships to unload directly into storage. Although heavily damaged during the Blitz and closed to commercial traffic in 1968, the docks were reborn in the 1970s as one of London's most beautiful hidden gems. #Super73 #ASMR #London #Wapping #StKatharineDocks #TowerBridge #ElectricBike #LondonHistory #EBikeLife #CitySounds
