 This is my homemade caramel frosting recipe.. use it in multiple desserts. It will stay nice and firm, but also soft to the touch. The full recipe below. Caramel Ingredients: 2 cans of carnation evaporated milk 2 sticks of butter, 2 sticks of sugar 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla flavoring Recipe: Combine all ingredients except vanilla in a stainless steel high quality pot and simmer on low, be sure to whisk continuously every 10 minutes . Once thick bubbles start forming and caramel starts to stick to side of the pan, whisk every 2 minutes until deep amber color is achieved. Remove from heat and let sit for several hours to thicken. After 1 hour add vanilla, whisk together and let set for several more hours until cool Pound cake ingredients: 3 Cups of sifted Cake Flour or All Purpose Flour 3 Sticks of butter 3 Cups of Sugar 1 package of softened cream cheese 2 tablespoons of vanilla 6 eggs Combine sugar and butter, mix on medium speed for 15 mins, add cream cheese and continue to mix for 5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time until well combined , add vanilla and mix until fully incorporated.. slowly add sifted flour on low speed. Once all flour is added , scrape bowl and loose ingredients into bowl and mix on high speed for 30 seconds Bake cake at 325 degrees for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 mins.. Take care out when a dry crumb is shown when tested. Let cool in pan 10 mins then transfer to cooling rack.
