Traditionally, tea leaves were used but betel leaves have become iconic to this snack. Betel leaves have a scent similar to cloves and have a peppery, earthy flavor. "Miang" refers to leaves used to wrap snacks and "Kham" means tidbit/bite because each leaf wrap you make here will be one bitesize. You can translate Miang Kham to something like Leaf Wrapped Tidbit or Leaf Wrapped Bites.
