Lessons from Successful Grass-Fed Dairy Farms

Dairy farming without any grain in the ration is not easy! And yet, in regions where there is a milk buyer paying a premium for grass-fed organic milk, there are now many hundreds of successful grass-fed dairy farms feeding only forages, minerals (and water). What are these grass-fed farms who are innovating and financially successful doing to produce high quality forages, maintain healthy soils, and support healthy lactating dairy cows without the grain? This session will look at cost of production and farm management data from the Northeast Grass-Fed Dairy research and education project which has been working with grass-fed dairy farms since 2018. Presenter: Sarah Flack This presentation was recorded during the 2026 New England Grazing and Livestock Conference in Manchester, New Hampshire.
