Service from Sunday 3rd May, 2026 - Becoming a Disciple of Jesus

Welcome to this service recorded at South Street Baptist Church in Exeter on Sunday 3rd May, 2026. The service is led by our minister Simon and is part of a our Holy Habits discipleship series. Currently, we are looking at 'Making more disciples'. In this service, Simon reminds us that Jesus does not have a one-size fits all approach but responds to the needs of the individual. His message is appropriate to their context. This means that our journeys to faith in God through Jesus will vary. Simon contrasts the story of the calling by Jesus of fishermen with Paul's dramatic converstion. Simon tells us that to become a follower of Jesus is easy but costly. We commit our lives to Christ through belief in Jesus and confession that he is the Risen Lord. The service includes: Welcome and Call to Worship Hymn At the name of Jesus Opening Prayer followed by The Lord’s Prayer Reading: Romans 10. 5-13 Offering and Dedication Hymn In a byre near Bethlehem Prayers of Intercession Reading Mark 1.14-20 Song: Gloria, gloria Sermon Becoming a Disciple The Peace Communion Hymn I will sing the wondrous story Blessing Our closing music is played by Mary Ellis, one of our organists.
