Last year, two ceremonial speeches by Cheng Lesong, a professor in the Philosophy Department at Peking University, unexpectedly went viral, precisely striking a chord with young people: "Being trapped in anxiety and frustration, unable to extricate myself, is the only way I can imagine wasting my life." This young man from a village in Dexing, Jiangxi Province, only turned his academic performance around after the arts/science stream was divided, ultimately being admitted to the Philosophy Department at Peking University through a transfer program. He calls himself a "philosophy geezer" (a term implying he's overly ambitious but lacking in ambition), and is also chased by KPIs. In late April, Yitiao interviewed Cheng Lesong.
