Lü De’an is a pioneer in the wave of new poetry in the 1980s. His 40-year collection of poems — “Bang Wan Jiang Yu (Rain in the Evening)” — is known as "the submerged work of Chinese poetry”. In the era where poets were in high demand, he went abroad, and became a nobody in a foreign country where he sold paintings on the street for a living. Later he returned to his hometown and built a house in the mountains of Fuzhou. From then on he has led a simple life in the company of mountain rocks, creeks, and pine forests.
