The "shores of light" represent the conscious, accepted, and "good" aspects of one's personality -- the persona or ideal self that we present to the world. This idea is intimately tied to the Jungian concept of the Shadow, which represents everything repressed, hidden, or denied about oneself. Jungian psychology postulates that true psychological maturity (individuation) requires a "fine dance between the light and the darkness," integrating the shadowy unconscious with the conscious "light".
