Talks were held in Paris between the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Kampuchua, a Cambodian territory occupied by the Vietnamese for 10 years, and the Khmer government. This marked the beginning of a thaw. Many Cambodian refugees living in France made the trip in the hope of reuniting with family members or mourning. This was the case for Sokun, a Cambodian refugee in France for about ten years. Deported in 1975, his family disappeared into the rice fields of Pursat province. He managed to escape from his collective farm and reach Thailand. This report follows Sokun, who, despite all the anguish it brings, decides to meet his daughter, Sokha, 11, who lives in Phnom Penh with an aunt. They only know each other through photographs. He hopes to be able to bring her back. After an emotional reunion with his daughter, Sokun sets out in search of answers, leads to find his loved ones or at least to learn what happened to them. He visits the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, then pays tribute to the mass graves in the Pursat rice fields. The suffering is very present; the events are still very recent for all the Cambodian exiles from France who made the trip. But they will have to part again. Sokun leaves Cambodia alone, but with the hope that Sokha will join him soon. Cambodian authorities finally allow family reunification, but no timeline has been set. ***** Comments Info ***** On YouTube channels, you are free to express your opinion, even if critical.
