From Small Things: Episode 40: This That and The Other
Welcome back! I have a little bit of everything to share with you this week. First of all, I went through all of the things which I had cleaned out of my closet last week, rearranged some things, and donated some to the thrift store. I took some fabrics out of the closet and made five different bindings, to use in the future. I also found an old vest with little quilt patches on it in my boxes of crazy quilt materials, and am going to disassemble it. Over the last week I have been doing some house-sitting, and took a few travel projects along to work on. I took a bunch of ties and worked on taking them apart, so that they will be ready to use when I next make a tie quilt; I also took along my embroidery blocks, and have now completed three of the twelve in the kits. I also took along a box of shirts, and worked on deconstructing them. These are going to become star blocks in three different sizes, modelled on a quilt I made awhile ago in browns-- but this version is going to be mostly blues, with some purples and blacks. I made a few star blocks to start, and I am really loving how it's looking. Last week, I had another friend stop by to drop off unwanted fabrics. I have another small box of goodies to add to my shelves! While cleaning out my closet, I also pulled out some batting scraps. I sewed some together to use as cleaning pads for my wood and linoleum floors. I'll show you how I use them to clean, because batting does an excellent job picking up the lint and threads which accumulate around a sewing room. I have still been working on working through my 2 1/2" square drawer, to keep it from overflowing. This time I've been making an effort to use up browns, blacks, and grays-- but I didn't want to use those colors exclusively, so there are some brighter colors mixed in as well. I have made 13 blocks with these, and will piece some together to make another top for charity. Finally, I finished up my twine rug. I decided it would be better to end up with a small rug which lays flat, rather than a large rug which might not. I really like the look of it! I'm very excited for all of the events coming up in my area in September-- I hope you have some good shows and sales to check out, too!
