Why My Motivation Always Falls Off a Cliff (AuDHD)
In this video, I talk about a pattern I’ve noticed throughout my life as an autistic person with ADHD: becoming intensely motivated by a new project, pouring huge amounts of time and energy into it, and then suddenly losing interest when the exciting part is over. I’ve often wondered where these bursts of motivation come from. Is it dopamine seeking? The novelty of learning something new? A form of hyperfocus? Whatever the cause, I’ve experienced this cycle countless times over the years. I also share my latest obsession: audiobook narration. Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by voice acting and voiceover work, but I’ve never seriously pursued it. After a recent conversation at a friend’s birthday party, I finally decided to give it a shot and see where it leads. Can you relate to this cycle of intense motivation followed by a sudden loss of interest? Have you ever discovered a passion through a period of hyperfocus? I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments.
